A Call to Tigray, Northern Ethiopia

The land of deep historical roots

Tigray, the cradle of Ethiopian civilisation, is home to the ancient Axumite kingdom which is traditionally linked to the Queen of Sheba who visited King Solomon in Jerusalem (1 Kings 10). Ethiopian tradition holds that from this union came Menelik I, the first Solomonic king, tying the region to Israel’s biblical lineage. Tigray is also renowned for its rock-hewn churches, centuries of Orthodox Christian faith, and the Qene poetic tradition, while its rugged mountains and strategic location in the Horn of Africa made it both a cultural stronghold and a place of enduring influence.

My first missionary journey to this region was in 2015, where several souls were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Other mission trips in the following years have been made to encourage the believers in the present truth and a couple more baptisms were conducted. There is no church in this area yet but just scattered believers hungry for more of the Word.

Believers rise to the challenge

Bro Oqbai & Bro Beniam who are ardent believers of the message have since taken the challenge of doing the much needed translation recently completing a total of 30 sermons.

Time was spent in fellowship with these precious brothers. On arriving in Addis Ababa, i took a 1.5 hours flight to Mekelle where Bro Beniam met me and together we started a road trip which lasted over 2 hours to the city of Adigrat.

The brothers never allowed me to spend anything on expenses for the days i was with them. From the hotel expenses, to the food etc, this goes to show their understanding of the sacrifice we made to go visit with them. We spent quality time in fellowship around the word, and encouraging them in their walk with the Lord.

NEED

We are currently looking forward to proofreading the currently completed Church Age book so that tracts can be immediately printed in the Tigrinya language for mass distribution to the ministers and interested persons in the region for outreach.

Please pray that the Lord will not only provide for this but that also he will give grace to me as I continually travel on missions in this region, but also for grace to be given to the brothers as they translate and proofread these messages, and for them to stand regardless of the persecution and hardships as they proclaim this message to their people.
